2025 - West Side Story
2025 - West Side Story
IGHCT celebrated its 6th Anniversary Season with a bold and electrifying production of WEST SIDE STORY, the legendary musical by Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents. The production was directed by Jake Sung-Guk Sullivan, with dynamic choreography by Kiko Laureano. Music and vocal direction were led by Madeline Huss—returning after her memorable work on our 2022 production of RENT. This season also marked an exciting first for IGHCT: the inclusion of a Stage Combat Coach and Intimacy Coordinator, with Mason Tyer bringing expert care and precision to these vital elements. The show’s ambitious and iconic set was designed by Zac Mans, providing a striking visual foundation for the storytelling.
The production brought together cast, crew, orchestra members, and volunteers of all ages, reinforcing IGHCT’s commitment to inclusive and culturally-sensitive casting and participation. An 18-piece orchestra tackled Bernstein’s demanding score from backstage, as the traditional pit was sacrificed to expand the stage—allowing room for the large cast, sweeping choreography, and immersive set, while drawing the action closer to the audience. The choir room was transformed into a fully equipped “soundstage,” complete with microphones and monitors, to support the musicians. Audience attendance increased over the previous year, making this 6th anniversary season not only ambitious, but resoundingly successful.
